This Amish cinnamon bread is a quick, no-starter-needed treat with a soft crumb and a sweet cinnamon sugar swirl. It’s perfect for breakfast, snacks, or gifting during the holidays.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2/3 cup sugar (for cinnamon mixture)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (for cinnamon mixture)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two 9×5-inch loaf pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 2 cups sugar.
  3. Add the eggs and buttermilk, then mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in the flour and baking soda until just combined.
  5. In a separate small bowl, mix together 2/3 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
  6. Pour 1/4 of the batter into each pan, then sprinkle with 1/4 of the cinnamon mixture.
  7. Repeat the layers with remaining batter and cinnamon mixture.
  8. Swirl through the batter with a butter knife.
  9. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Substitute buttermilk with 2 cups milk plus 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Top with additional cinnamon sugar for extra crunch.
  • Freezes well for up to 3 months when wrapped tightly.
