Candy Cane Caprese Board

Candy Cane Caprese Board

The Candy Cane Caprese Board is a festive holiday appetizer that transforms the classic Caprese salad into a visually stunning centerpiece. Made with fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and basil, it’s a light and flavorful dish perfect for Christmas gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese log, sliced 1/4-inch thick (about 13 slices)
  • 3 large ripe tomatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick (about 12 slices)
  • 9 whole fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • 1 large baguette, sliced and toasted

Instructions

  1. Begin with a large rectangular board or platter (approximately 20×13 inches).
  2. Alternate slices of mozzarella and tomato, curving slightly at the top to form a candy cane shape.
  3. Tuck fresh basil leaves between the layers or scatter them around the board for contrast and color.
  4. Drizzle the mozzarella and tomato slices with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt just before serving.
  5. Place small bowls of balsamic glaze and olive oil on the side for dipping.
  6. Arrange toasted baguette slices around the edges of the board and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use a rimmed board or platter for easier assembly and presentation.
  • Prepare ingredients in advance, but assemble right before serving for maximum freshness.
  • Homemade balsamic glaze can be made by reducing 1 cup of balsamic vinegar until thickened to about 1/3 cup.
  • Garnish with rosemary or cranberries for an extra festive touch.
