A sweet and tangy homemade cranberry sauce made with just three ingredients: fresh cranberries, orange juice, and sugar. This vibrant holiday side dish is quick to prepare and can be served warm or cold.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries (or thawed frozen cranberries, drained)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice

Instructions

  1. Add fresh cranberries, white sugar, and orange juice to a deep saucepan. Stir to combine.
  2. Heat over medium-high, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to pop and boil (about 5 minutes).
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and continue to simmer for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most cranberries have burst.
  4. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool. The sauce will thicken as it stands.
  5. Spoon into a serving dish and serve warm or chilled. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

Notes

  • For a sweeter version, add 1/4 cup grape jam during boiling.
  • Add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg for warm spice flavor.
  • Swap orange juice for cranberry-grape or blackberry juice for variation.
  • Top with orange zest before serving for extra flavor and presentation.
  • Use a potato masher or immersion blender for a smoother texture.
