Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen green beans (about 1 lb), trimmed
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), pepper, and 2/3 cup of the fried onions.
  3. Stir in the green beans and cheddar cheese (if using) until well mixed.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, until bubbling around the edges.
  6. Remove from oven, top with the remaining fried onions, and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

  • Blanch fresh green beans for 3–4 minutes in boiling water before using.
  • For extra flavor, sauté fresh mushrooms and garlic and add to the mixture.
