These crispy oven baked sweet potato fries are a healthier, flavor-packed alternative to deep-fried fries. With a smoky, garlicky seasoning and golden crisp texture, they make the perfect side or snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 pound), peeled (optional) and cut into 1/4 inch fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a baking sheet inside to heat up.
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes if desired and cut them into uniform 1/4 inch thick fries.
  3. Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  4. Drain and pat the fries completely dry with a paper towel or clean cloth.
  5. In a large bowl, toss the fries with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and cornstarch if using.
  6. Carefully remove the hot baking sheet and spread the fries in a single, spaced-out layer.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until fries are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Let the fries cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, use cornstarch or arrowroot powder.
  • Smoked paprika adds depth but can be replaced with chili powder for heat.
  • Don’t skip drying the fries thoroughly—this prevents sogginess.
  • Serve with chipotle mayo, garlic aioli, or honey mustard for dipping.
