These Puff Pastry Pesto Christmas Trees are a festive, quick, and savory appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings. Made with buttery puff pastry, aromatic basil pesto, and Parmesan cheese, they deliver a delightful crunch and flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll puff pastry
  • 4 tablespoons basil pesto
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmigiano cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C / 400°F.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet over parchment paper.
  3. Spread the basil pesto evenly on top of the puff pastry using a spoon or spatula.
  4. Sprinkle the grated Parmigiano cheese evenly over the pesto layer.
  5. Cut the puff pastry into strips approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide.
  6. Fold each strip back and forth to create a Christmas tree shape. Optionally, insert a skewer through the center to hold the shape.
  7. Place shaped trees on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden and puffed.

Notes

  • You can prepare homemade basil pesto the day before and store it in the fridge.
  • Do not freeze after baking as puff pastry loses its crisp texture.
  • Try alternative pestos like kale or sun-dried tomato for variation.
  • Add mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar cheese for a cheesier version.
